Common Frequency Exhibition & Zine

adidas Originals Creator Network North × Factory International

2026, Manchester

Photography, Creative Direction, Exhibition, Publication Development, Image Selection, Project Management

Common Frequency was the final exhibition of the 2026 adidas Originals Creator Network North, a six month creative development programme delivered in partnership with Factory International. Presented at Aviva Studios in Manchester between 3 and 6 October 2026, the exhibition brought together work by 20 creatives exploring the relationship between music, identity and community through photography, moving image, installation and live performance.

My contribution included a series of photographic works presented as large scale installations, as well as creative direction, photography and project management for the accompanying printed zine.

Common Frequency Zine

Creative Direction, Photography, Image Selection, Project Management, Design Assistance

The Common Frequency zine was developed as a printed extension of the exhibition, bringing together photography, visual work and writing by members of the adidas Originals Creator Network North cohort.

The initial creative direction grew out of my ongoing interest in artist books, independent publications and experimental editorial design. Drawing on references collected through my research into different approaches to photographic publishing, I proposed an art book inspired format that could bring together individual contributions while allowing each creative’s work to retain its own identity.

I subsequently helped lead the publication’s creative development and production, working on its overall direction, photographic contributions, image selection, project management and design development. As the project progressed, a small creative team formed to develop the publication collaboratively, with Ben Brumpton responsible for publication design and typography.

The resulting zine brings together different perspectives on music, moving between documentary photography, constructed imagery and more personal observations of the spaces, objects and experiences connected to music.

Exhibition Installation

Presented in the North Warehouse at Factory International, Common Frequency occupied a large scale exhibition space transformed through suspended photographic installations, lighting, moving image and live performances.

Six photographs from my series Somewhere in the Music were produced as large format prints and suspended throughout the space. The vertical works measured approximately 2.3 × 1.5 metres, while the horizontal works measured 1.5 × 2.3 metres, allowing the photographs to be experienced at a scale significantly different to their original digital presentation.

The installation brought together colour and black & white portraits exploring the personal experience of listening to music, with the surrounding exhibition environment creating a dialogue between photography, sound and physical space.
